AIZU HAIRSTYLE @ THE FIVE
Kuala Lumpur
AIZU Hair Style is a hair salon imbued with Japanese mannerisms. It provides the best beauty services in town pampering savvy patrons.
The design of this project is based on the Wabi Sabi of Japanese aesthetics – basic, fascinating yet beautiful. The entire space planning divides space into multiple spaces serving different functions. Yet it emphasizes design coherence and its overall inviting user experience through the flow of these spaces.
Visitors are first greeted by a wide glass facade that showcases the organic shape of the reception counter which draws you into its interiors.
The stepping stones beyond the waiting lounge of AIZU lead VIPs to their dedicated rooms while its angled orientation allows maximum natural light penetration. On the other hand, the hairdo ‘island’ is placed at the center of an elevated platform in order to highlight its central services. An oversized ceiling membrane was introduced to mimic natural daylight over this island space; blurring the times of the day.
The salon is finished with a restrained palette such as micro-cement, epoxy, and textured paint in order to celebrate the essential beauty of the basic shapes of the space, likened to celebrating the beauty of a human’s facial features and hair and what we would typically describe as ‘good bones’.
Soft daylighting is introduced throughout to support the beholder in seeing one’s natural beauty in a relaxing ambience. AIZU’s functional spaces are also demonstrated through a series of vertical and horizontal rhythms such as the dancing curve walls and wavy tier seating bench.
